C1: The Coastline of Ishikawa Prefecture 20,000 vs 6,000 years ago

20,000 years ago the ocean level was approximately 100m lower, and the islands of Hegura and Nanatsu (north of Wajima) were a part of the mainland. The Matto Submerged Forest existed at this time, but due to a warm period, about 8,000 years ago the ocean level rose close to where it currently is and the forest became submerged. The ocean level continued to rise and by 6,000 years ago the ocean level was actually 3-7m higher than current. 3,000 years ago Japan entered another cold period, and the ocean level dropped 2-3m lower than current. Then, 1,000 years ago Japan entered another warm period and the ocean level rose about 1m higher than current. Finally during the Kamakura Period (1185-1333) Japan entered another cool period, and the ocean level lowered to its current height.
