The Succession of the Jōdo Shinshū Sect of Buddhism
The Jōdo Shinshū sect of Buddhism is said to have been founded by the monk Shinran, who lived from 1173 to 1263. His role as the 1st head priest of Jōdo Shinshū (which came to be governed under Honganji Temple), was passed down from generation to generation, until Honganji Temple split into East Honganji and West Honganji in 1602.
